The Road Traffic Management Corporation has sent a warning to youths currently engaging in the #IdibalaChallenge motivated by King Monada’s recent single Malwedhe.
In the song King Monada sang about fainting / collapsing if a woman of interest leaves him or cheats on him. The singer said he has a disease of falling which will be triggered if his woman leaves.
Fans have shared video driving while simulating a fainting move, this leaves their eyes shut for a while and their hands off the steering.
Simon Zwane of RTMC has warned that the challenge can lead to an untimely death.
“The time you take your eyes off the road can lead to a fatal crash. This is dangerous,” he said.
“It is in the same category as texting and driving. Many fatal crashes are caused by this. It is worse for these two (paramedics) because they are not wearing safety belts. Crashes happen within a split of a second and drivers should keep full concentration on the road. Motorists should desist from this practice. It is dangerous and places the lives of road users at risk.”
